Why should the US meddle in their affairs? A crime has been committed on their soil by their citizens
Yes, against our troops, on our bases. You can bet your bottom dollar that if the Saudi embassy was blown up in Washington, the Saudis would demand a joint investigation -- which State would give them at once. That argument won't fly.
if they did so and their OPEC colleagues joined in, it would have a significant impact on the US at this time. You bet the Saudis are aware of that.
The Saudis are also aware of the effect it would have on themselves, which would be far worse than the effect it would have on us -- this is a sword with two edges.
Once they succeed with the EU and other moderate Arabs, then we can expect to see the Saudis allow increased use of US bases on their soil.
You mean, once we have completely defeated the pro-Saddam alliance (Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran), we can then expect some Saudi help? Big deal. It's too late by then. If only Saddam were not such a general menace, there is nothing I would like better than to get out of Saudi Arabia and invite him to take over the place, which would take him about five days, even in his current weakened state. You'd see those spoiled princes change their tune in a hurry then, just as they did in 1990!
Why is the US tolerating Farakkhan's visit with Saddam?
Because he's a private citizen, and the visit does not rate the importance it would gain if we made a fuss about it. Comparing Farakkan to the petrodollar-funded, official government policy of Saudi Arabia for the last thirty years is like comparing a balsa wood glider to a Boeing 747. The both fly, but there the resemblance ends.
Glad you liked memri.org -- it's well worth reading. Much of the American press has been only listening to what Egypt and Saudi Arabia say in English, and have been falsely reporting to us that they are moderates. Memri show us what they are saying in Arabic, quite a different story indeed. |
