Nadine, your posts are great. It can really promote a good debate. Let me attempt this one.

You said: "....You can bet your bottom dollar that if the Saudi embassy was blown up in Washington, the Saudis would demand a joint investigation..."

I am not aware of such a demand for their citizens who are being held at Guantanamo bay. In fact, I wish the US did not have to spend a single dollar on them, since it is a expensive way of proving to the world that we here in the US have a just and fair legal system. Instead they should release those Saudi prisoners from Guantanamo and hand them over to the Saudis, who will execute them within 3 weeks, I bet.

You said: "...The Saudis are also aware of the effect it would have on themselves..."
You may have a point here if you state what effect it will have on them if they imposed a oil embargo.

Regarding attacking Saddam, I would like at some point that Saddam be deposed for the benefit of the Iraqi citizens. I have no respect for a man who can order the shooting of the "father of his grandchildren" (Col. Kamel). However, the US has to get nations on their side before thay can do so. And once the US can get others, even the UK who have always supported the US, then the Saudis will agree to the use of their bases by the US.

There is another site which I found to be very balanced on the Israel-Palestenian issue.
