I don't know how much they earn from ad revenues here. It never was much, as this started out as a subscription service (back when I joined...).

I suspect they will be forced to align themselves with a trading service, like Clearstation eventually did.

Being in the media ad sales industry, I can say that advertising in community-based sites like this is NOT on the top of advertisers' priority lists. In fact, this is one of the last places they want to be, and while I understand the reasons, it really doesn't make any sense. Community sites are the best places to reach particular types of audiences, and SI in particular is a very targeted audience.
I've always been flummoxed by some of the decisions advertisers make. Super Bowl, for example, is the WORST return on your dollar for an advertiser, even with the additional coverage you get for having a cool ad. Yet they pay millions for 30 seconds. It's all ego-related.
