The Merck news certainly presents a trading opportunity of the first order since the Merck unit posted equivalent amounts of non-earnings as, I suppose, non-costs. In sum, a zero game. Cheesy? Absolutely, but I'm not sure it changes the balance sheet one iota.

The market will soon enough realize that shaving 15% off Merck's capitalization is excessive given the zero sum nature of Merck's cheesiness. Unless, of course, there's more to come, which is also possible.
