Bill, Re: "Let us not have the fundamentalist crap force fed to our kids with the daily pledge."
I don't see anything fundamentalist in the Pledge of Allegiance. On the contrary, it stands for everything on which this nation was built. Listen to the words, Bill. "One Nation". "Indivisible". "Liberty". "Justice for All". I don't see the difference if these words are "Under God", or "Under Allah", or even "Under the Sun". There needn't be any religious ties at all, except for the way you see it, and fortunately, you are not the majority. America has already spoken. The Pledge stands for far more than you seem to think, and Americans want their children being part of the national unity. No one is "forcing" them to say the Pledge, and no amount of contrived examples of "conforming to the norm" are going to make us like your stereotypical "Muslim Country" example. The United States is a Free Country, and everyone is Free to say and do what they want, as long as they do not infringe on other people's Freedoms. Your kids are Free to not say the Pledge, and you are Free as a parent to complain to the teacher and work something out. You are even Free to go onto these Internet boards and state your honest opinion. Nothing fundamentalist is stopping you from doing this. But if the majority of Americans want their children to say the Pledge, then schools will continue to do so, and that's that.
