On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to extend my deepest apologies for allowing the smoke from Quebec to drift over your pristine forests and sparkling streams--and even to penetrate to the unspoiled beauty of your wholesome cities. It is a foul thing, and a dereliction for which this humble expression of contrition is but the hapless flutter of a broken wing. I feel every single cough which wracks your pretty throat; and I hope you will believe that I feel the pain of your struggles...as though they were my very own.
