Thanks, Ish. Leaving aside comic relief--it is very serious, and I would never trivialize it. Arizona seems to be out of the woods (bad pun, but couldn't resist), but the cost was high, eh?

As you know, most Canadians live along the U.S. border, so our major fires usually threaten smaller communities to the north of major cities. Every winter without adequate snowfall practically guarantees tinder conditions. We always know that farms will likely pay a price in the absence of fortuitous rainfall...as will our forests. Of course, I really am sorry that the Quebec pollutants have travelled (according to the papers) as far as Washington. It reminds all of us, though, of an old Donne poem...
