Patricia I saw the article in the SF Chronicle talking about time running out for people on welfare. Congress has mandated that these folks have a LIFETIME limit of five years; when Congressmen can serve little more than that and receive a LIFETIME pension. What is so alarming and appalling is that even though these people are working, their wages alone still don't cover the basics.

What concerns me most is the plight of single moms with small children for whom the loss of these funds will spell disaster. People have to realize that being poor is not a crime; letting people who live in the greatest country in the world starve is a crime. Giving retired police officers huge pensions, while men who've served in the military get nothing is a crime. Throwing someone out of his home because he can't pay the taxes that pay for all these government officials to retire in ease is a crime. Taking food from the mouths of babies while some CEO writes off homes, vacations, cars, etc to the company, thereby avoiding taxes, is a crime. Being against helping others less fortunate in the community, which help for them would ultimately benefit the community, shows a complete lack of humanity, compassion and character.
