"...those are shallow levels of addiction".
Well, perhaps, compared to something like addiction to alcohol, freebase coke, heroin, and so on.
However, the addictions to money, food and sex are not lightweight, they are just UNOBSERVED. Rather than being "shallow" they are PROFOUNDLY DEEP and DRIVE your perception of conscious awareness.
None of this is obvious however, if what you experience, personally, moment to moment, remains unobserved. It becomes known to you (vividly) through a process called "self-observation", as distinct from a process called "self-watching".
After engaging this process for more than 15 years, I can say that just about EVERYTHING that enters my conscious ego-awareness is driven by my underlying preoccupations with money, food and sex.
Now I am aware, Solon, that you are advancing the argument of the man of superior observation, understanding, wisdom and clarity. Perhaps you are different from the rest of us? Or maybe I am the only one in the world so preoccupied?
Or maybe not.
Namaste!
