Korea's KTF says in alliance talks with NTT Docomo

(Adds DoCoMo comment)

SEOUL, July 9 (Reuters) - South Korean mobile carrier KTF Co. (KOSDAQ:32390.KQ - News) said on Tuesday it was in working-level talks with Japan's No. 1 mobile phone operator, NTT DoCoMo (Tokyo:9437.T - News), to form a strategic alliance including a stake sale.

"Working-level officials have visited each other and undergone enough study," a KTF spokesman told Reuters by telephone.

"We've found various cooperative measures, which could benefit both of us," he said. "A stake sale is possible for a comprehensive alliance."

Protracted talks by SK units -- SK Corp (KSE:03600.KS - News) and SK Global (KSE:01740.KS - News) -- to sell a combined 14.5 percent stake in SK Telecom (KSE:17670.KS - News) to the Japanese telecom firm collapsed late last year over price differences.

"It is true we have had meetings with KT Freetel Co. and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SES:TELE.SI - News) as potential partners in Asia," NTT DoCoMo said in a statement.

"However, nothing has been determined as of this time," he said.

Shares of KTF, the nation's second-largest mobile service provider, inched up 0.24 percent to end at 41,700 won, underperforming the over-the-counter Kosdaq (KOSDAQ:^KQ11 - News) up 2.48 percent.
