Mark, There is a huge shortage of AAA corporates, with only 9 AAA cos. around. The indices may be part of the move.

Yes, they would do well in a deflationary recession/depression. The problem is if we get inflation, then you are starting from the lowest rates in years. I think I'd go with cash and buy the long term bond futures calls as a safer way to play.
