David used to show the penguins running into the water a couple of years ago - representing the analysts blindly following one another. I think CNBC probably was prodded to quit being so sarcastic of analysts as they haven't shown the spot video for some time. If analysts only use company data, maybe the companies should present their own estimates as there will be 1 million lawyers ready to jump on the slightest estimate - on the other hand maybe that is why companies don't like to give out information as it is so often used against them.
