Bruce, the analysts are generally not stupid. The whole rating system is calculated to make them and their key clients a lot of money - as we all know. But it's not all investment banking related. They are part of giant short and long positions and what they say is generally so vague as to make it easy to see what's going on. Goldman calls ACF's future profit picture "murky with no catalysts". Well, how about low interest rates lasting another year?

And where were they when the stock was $45 a month or two ago? Is this an attempt to give shorting pressure new life? Did they get clients in some time ago on the short side and only now put the rating out to gain another 2-4 points? I'm sure that the general public is the very last sucker after all the layers above us have been told to short. Ditto on the long side.

I get some benefit out of some analyst calls. They provide me with some logical reason to buy or sell. But I never forget that they have told several layers of people their info before I get it.
