They weren't moved from high ground, and they didn't lose their effectiveness. The solution to the problem ended up being a treaty, as it had been all along.

Egypt fought the 73 war under very favorable circumstances and they still lost.

No, Egypt won. They could have met the Syrian troops halfway, but the US called a halt to the affair. That is why Israel suicidally threatened to use nukes (that would have ultimately led to Israel's destruction). The US came in and helped Israel regain some ground, but not before they were thoroughly beaten.

Israel rejected the 1971 offer from Egypt but accepted the identical 1977 offer. They didn't get nicer in those 6 years. They got scared.
