On a somewhat serious note, one of the reasons that I'm more skeptical these days about long term buy and hold (rather than taking profits when they are significant, which is what I'll do in the future) is that we bought the illusion that the playing field had been somewhat leveled by the influx of mega information provided by the internet.

The illusion of that was what has been demonstrated by the Enrons, WCOMs, Martha Stewarts, and George W's of the world. Add a corrupt and pro-corporate Administration and what do you get? The playing field is not level, the rich insiders have a huge advantage, and the small investor has been left holding the (much smaller) bag.

I think that these factors call into question whether long term buy and hold remains a reasonably prudent strategy.

Any opinions? :)
