Elmer and Semi,

A simple point, get a couple of engineers involved, and it turns into a quagmire of tech speak <g>. I was just thinking more units (AMD's) against the same fixed costs make better gross margins. Add a slight cut in marketing dollars that go to the bottom line.

A nice fantasy, but AMD is still viable. In the 1st or 2nd quarter we should know where they stand, if there are marketing or manufacturing issues with Hammer/Opteron, the death spiral may begin in earnest (at least in microprocessors).

The biggest social impact of a world without AMD would be the 1000's of Droids wandering the streets in dazed disbelief.
