Some mutual funds tumble into the "50-50 club"

By John Waggoner, USA TODAY

The mutual fund world has a new, exclusive club: The 50-50 club.
Its members have the dubious distinction of having lost more than
50% in 2001 and more than 50% this year, too. All funds have
struggled this year: The average stock mutual fund has fallen
11.7%, says fund-tracker Lipper. And technology funds, some of the hardest
hit, are down an average 33.8%. But members of the 50-50 club have gone
beyond large losses to mind-numbing meltdowns.
