Mariculture Systems to Install a SARGO(TM) FINFARM In British Columbia, Canada
EDMONDS, Wash., July 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mariculture Systems, Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: MCUL), announced today that a British Columbia, Canada-based aquaculture corporation signed a letter of intent to install and operate Mariculture's patented SARGO(TM) fish rearing technology. The $1.8 million dollar project is being scheduled for construction later in 2002, conditional on a permit expansion by British Columbia's Provincial Government, and will be a demonstration facility for Mariculture.
Mariculture's Vice President Rick Luce stated, "The proposed sale provides Mariculture with access to the farm and to production data for future sales activities. We intend to show our customers that our closed- containment system is not only environmentally friendly, but more profitable as compared to traditional systems."
The farm will consist of four SARGO reservoirs, systems and controls and will be capable of producing 500 metric tons of fish. The system is revolutionary in its ability to contain and collect solid wastes.
Luce continued, "Our ability to collect waste is key. Once collected, the waste can be processed as a high nitrogen fertilizer and/or converted into an alternative source of power. The farm will be used to study positive applications for the byproducts of the farm."
The SARGO technology utilizes solid-wall reservoirs to isolate the fish crop from surface contaminants and interaction with predators, while at the same time capturing and containing solid wastes in near-shore ocean and lake locations. Moving reservoir technologies to the source of water eliminates the need for a large coastal land investment and eliminates the need to lift water great heights, significantly reducing operating costs.
