Have you ever heard of "winner-take-all" markets? Most markets have room for small players, just like your example of the BMW. However somebody observed not long ago that other markets do not seem to be like that. For example, in a trial, if you have the best lawyer you walk free, if you have the second best lawyer you end up in jail. Many of us believe that the personal computer market is a winner-take-all market because of issues of software production and user training. This might change in the future, when all computers are equally easy-to-use and all apps look the same (already the case with web browsers and MS office, btw).
