I think there's a much more important difference between Charles and CYBERKEN: hate. Charles doesn't hate anyone. CYBERKEN lives for hate.
Charles is a tiny bit dogmatic, but he isn't an extremist. He clearly feels bound to treat people with some level of dignity, regardless of what they say.
CYBERKEN labors under the CANONICAL PSYCHOPATH WORLD VIEW:
Pure world = good people - (conspirators + dupes)
The conspirators and dupes do not have the rights of human beings, perhaps not even the rights of animals. Thus a "good person" is under no obligation to treat them with courtesy. On the contrary, they should not be allowed to vote (he has said so on this thread). It is OK, perhaps even heroic, to kill them or otherwise harm them, since they are "implacable enemies" out to destroy the pure world that would exist if only the good people were left alive (he has said things to this effect on this thread).
At the same time, the ONLY poster who has ever written "fuck you" on this thread to another poster views himself as governed by some kind of "moral framework", and sees himself as the only one with a grasp of "reality" among the "Marxist/Leninists" and their dupes who don't share his nutzoid hatred. He refers often to "we" and "the rest of us", the army of the righteous that he delusionally believes is backing him up (i.e. the Rush Limbaugh audience).
This is the profile of a nut. Charles is far from a nut.
There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that CYBERKEN is real on some level, in the sense that, even if he's just a brain-stem in a bottle of formaldehyde with an internet connection, he is espousing views he actually holds. He's not an 'ordinary person' vogueing up a persona that doesn't resemble him and laughing up his sleeve.
The comparison is an insult to Charles, who is obviously a good and very intelligent man despite his quirks.
Even if CYBERKEN were a joke, which he unfortunately isn't, the existence of that joke would make me fear for the future of humanity as a species.

Edit: There's also a big difference between CYBERKEN and JDN. JDN's posts are sometimes influenced by anger and frustration (which we all feel from time to time), not hate. JDN is another good man (in fact a likable man with a sense of humor) whose views I happen to disagree with most of the time. Even at his most crotchety, I have never had an objection to any of his posts. |
