10:02 (Dow Jones) Another morning and the action continues. The CBOE's market
volatility index, or VIX, climbed on opening from its highest close of the year
and hit 40.98, reaching above the 40 mark for the first time since Sept. 25.

This fear gauge most recently is at 39.87, up 0.85. (KT)
