As in the 70s, <the last refuge of scoundrels...> is to monetize the debt. Initially, this will be politically popular with overindebted consumers as it enables them to repay debts in cheaper clown $$$$$.

When there's more time, will try and talk more about which characteristics of the 1970s we're likely to see; Particularly the ones that will really fool the vast majority of investors.
