Kinross we know in the g.w.n. as k.to ... no, no specific opinion on b/s/h of it at the moment, i keep meaning to look closely at that highly interesting three-way deal and haven't yet gotten to it .... followed it for years though, have some general impressions -
1. smart connected ambitious people .... the ambition has led them to leverage assets to build a serious company, and the smarts and connections have kept them from going broke at it .... so far ... they're competent miners too, had some bad luck at Macassa and got stuck with Refugio on the Amax deal, but the latter should turn out great with improving PoG and meanwhile their Fort Knox is a solid winner
2. the Amex listing is a valuable asset ... too bad they got the boot from the nyse, still the major body of hot money has easy open access to the share
3. highly liquid share, makes for a great trader ... thinking here of Toronto, don't know about in the US ... but it has lots of shares out and is widely held and followed
4. when they do the 1-for-3 rollback they might get back their ny-listing?
5. generally i've always liked it, you could do a lot worse, like buy Placer or something ... must look at that deal soon, i need something to replace Franco as a trading vehicle to satisfy the compulsion to constantly push the buy/sell buttons based on perception of the short-term chart ... used to trade k.to before fn.to actually ... missed most of its spike on the Washington Agreement news in '99, aargh, i was waiting for it cheaper
Kinross holds ten per cent or so of X-Cal btw ... it is from them that xcl is buying Sleeper, they got it in the Amax deal .... no longer directors but still involved are the Goodmans, here is Ned Goodman's 'all roles' from stockwatch, you don't get much more central to the industry than this -
