Expected date for parity of CDMA1X with W-CDMA?

Jim Jupiter FL: Most of the press, aided by the GSM community, buys into the standard line that WCDMA will eventually be 70 or 80 percent of all 3G systems. With cdma1X currently at more than 10 million subscribers and WCDMA (via FOMA) at about 120 thousand, would you like to take a guess at what year WCDMA subs will surpass 1X subs (and EV-DO) on a worldwide basis?

Andrew Seybold: Yes Jim, my answer is not until 2006 or 2007 and I am not sure that even then it will happen but by then most phones will be capable of both technologies--the fallicy of the GSM community is thinking that EVERY GSM subscriber becomes a WCDMA subscriber which I believe to be flawed thinking--voice only and voice SMS users don't have much incentive to go to WCDMA until the opertors force them off the GSM networks.
