Re. Hoagland and the PBS Saddam show:

Here are two PBS companion sites to the broadcast. The second link contains a series of very good maps concerning the Kurds and Saddams chemical campaign against them. Very good, check it out...

pbs.org

pbs.org

What the Hoagland piece leaves out and I'm thinking the PBS series does as well, is the longstanding Iraqi policy of "Arabizing" Kirkuk province (the "Oil province"). Saddam pursues this policy with relish when he can, and from what I can discern, is carrying it out as we speak.

If you want in depth info on Kurds (Iraqi, Iranian, and Turkish) pick up "A People Without a Country: The Kurds & Kurdistan" by Gerard Challiand. Am reading it right now. Excellent background for FADG discussions!

The rest of my initial Summer reading list is as follows:

"Germs: Biological Weapons and America's Secret War" Judith Miller, Stephen Engelberg, William Broad.

"Endgame" Scott Ritter.

"Clash" Samuel Huntington.
