Juniper Posts Earnings, but Revenues Down
SUNNYVALE, Calif. (Reuters) - Juniper Networks Inc. (NasdaqNM:JNPR - News), the No. 2 maker of equipment that directs Internet traffic, on Thursday reported a net profit in its second quarter compared with a loss a year earlier despite revenues sinking on weak demand from telecommunication carriers and network service providers.
Juniper earned $6.2 million, or 2 cents per share in its second quarter, compared with a loss of $37.1 million, or 12 cents per share, a year earlier.
Revenues were $117 million, compared with $202.2 million a year earlier.
Excluding extra items, Juniper reported earnings of $421,000, or nil per share, compared with earnings excluding charges of $29.3 million, or 9 cents per share, a year earlier.
Analysts on average had expected Juniper to lose 1 cent per share excluding extra items, with individual estimates in a range between a loss of 6 cents per share and earnings of 1 cent per share, according to research firm Thomson First Call. |
