we drove down to u.s. customs and
immigration this morning to get our
nexus cards for speedy border crossing.

we were fingerprinted, photographed,
interviewed and sent on our way with
two cards each. one has our pictures on
it. the other one looks blank except it
can be read by a special monitor that is
located above the special nexus card
holders lane. you flash your blank card
at this thing (which is approximately
30 feet away) and all your relevant data
comes up on the screen of the agent in the
booth. then as you pass through, you flash
him your picture id and if they don't do a
spot check, you're on your way.

i expected the black ink treatment for
fingerprinting, but its high tech now.

no mo ink.

there was a bumper sticker on the car in
front of us. i know you don't like bumper
stickers - neither do i, except for the fish
with little feet - but this was a good one.
it said

"it will be a great day when schools
receive all the funding they need and
the airforce has to hold a bake sale to
buy a new bomber".
