David, just my opinion, but I think you are confusing true liberalism with Clinton-style liberalism, or Clinton-style politics in general.

Perhaps. I'll assume you include Carville, Begala, McCauliffe, Gore, and other current day Democrats as "Clinton-style" politicians. But consider the following:

-LBJ lied, through his teeth, as he sent 58,000 of My Generation to their deaths. The LBJ tapes have proven that, without a doubt, he and Bob McNamara KNEW the war was unwinnable.

-Joe Lieberman, ostensibly the moral concience of the Democrat party, left his morals and his shame at home when he refused to condemn the racist attack ad against Bush during the 2000 election. I cannot imagine that George Bush would not have condemned a similar ad against Gore, had it happened.

-I'll refrain from saying much about Gore's attempted theft of the election in 2000, other to mention it happened.

-Tom Daschle and Dick Gephart have shown, time and time again, that they will lie, time and time again, in their efforts to get a political advantage.

-Gray Davis, liberal governor of California, has lied repeatedly to his constituents in an effort to misdirect the focus away from his own incompetence.

Perhaps these (and 100s of other) examples are just "Clinton-style", but I find them to be characteristic of Democrats, in general.
