By pretending that they don't see the correlation between Islam and terrorism (or even admitting that terrorism is occurring - i.e. LAX), the US Government is keeping the lid on the bottle. After the next big terrorist attack, the top is likely to explode off and result in a backlash similar to the one after Pearl Harbor.

It would be much more intelligent to openly discuss the problem, toss out all Muslims who fit the profile of terrorists now, and avoid an attack and a full scale backlash against the vast majority of patriotic Muslims living in the US.
