SouthernEra Resources has appointed John K. Barker as vice-president, compliance and corporate development. Mr. Barker joins SouthernEra following a career as a mineral economist and mining equity analyst. He started his career as a mineral economist with Gold Fields South Africa and has worked in the City of London as a mining equity analyst with Williams De Broe, Hambros Equities and most recently as director and global gold, platinum and diamond equity analyst for Royal Bank of Canada Europe Ltd. The focus of Mr. Barker's activities will be to develop new corporate initiatives for SouthernEra Resources that will increase shareholder value. SouthernEra's president and chief executive officer, Patrick Evans, said: "As one of the leading and most respected platinum and diamond analysts, John has a deep understanding of our industry and the opportunities for a fast growing company such as SouthernEra. His focus will be on building value for our shareholders." In addition, Mr. Barker will also lead SouthernEra's focus on the all-important issue of corporate compliance. Over the past six months the company has undertaken a complete review of its entire minerals asset base, ensuring that it is in full compliance with all the major mining regulatory codes. Johannesburg-based Venmyn Rand has driven this process as independent competent persons. "Our mineral reserves and resources are the primary basis of our company's valuation," said Mr. Evans. "Our investors must have complete confidence in the reserve and resource statements published by the company. With his wealth of experience, John will ensure that SouthernEra continues to remain fully in compliance with the regulatory codes." In view of his broad knowledge and understanding of the United Kingdom and European investment markets, Mr. Barker will also play a key role in introducing SouthernEra to this market following the company's AIM listing on the London Stock Exchange, which is expected to take place within a matter of weeks. Accordingly, he will be based in London. Mr. Barker is a graduate of Sheffield City University in Yorkshire, England, where he earned a BSc in minerals estate management. He has been SFA registered since 1991 and served as chairman of the Association of Mining Analysts in 1996. |
