AMD to Make Mainboards? [7:34 am] Rat
We heard pretty curious rumors from Taiwan recently. According to our sources, AMD is planning to start shipping mainboards for their CPUs in the future. Note that the whole thing is not about samples, but about fully-fledged mass pieces.
In fact, there is nothing to be surprise at here. Other x86 CPU developers, such as Intel and VIA, have been producing mainboards for a long time now, which grants them some indisputable advantages over the competitors. It is true that once the processor manufacturer is ready to offer the market platforms for its CPUs, there appear much fewer causes for concern in terms of granting the newcomers proper support.
It is evident that if AMD starts making its own mainboards, then the first products under AMD brand name will be targeted for the 8th generation Hammer processors. Firstly, this way AMD will make sure that there are enough mainboards for the new CPUs after their launching. As we remember, after the first Athlon processors came out, the mainboard makers failed to supply enough Slot A mainboards for them, which slowed down the spreading of these progressive processors quite tangibly. Secondly, by making the mainboards for its CPUs, AMD will make sure that all the features of the new CPUs will be implemented correctly and completely. For instance, AMD still cannot convince the mainboard guys that they should implement power saving and thermal protection technologies on their products. So, you see there is the whole bunch of advantages here.
At the same time, if AMD does start shipping its own mainboards, Taiwanese chipset and mainboard makers may feel really pissed off assuming that AMD is trying to take their market share. Certainly, this outcome will do AMD no good.

I think AMD should make a motherboard that fully supports PowerNow, and not necessarily follow up, leaving the business to Taiwanese. Another thing AMD should probably make is 4 and 8 way motherboars for Hammer, if no one else is making them
