you know- a natural fit for msft would be the help desk market. They own IT collaboration tools (outlook, etc) and help desk is a natural extension of that- also help desk is not as complex in terms of customization vs. salesforce where you have completely different pipeline issues across industries.

If msft did a helpdesk product they could pull the old msft technique of integrating outlook etc. with special APIs that ONLY work with msft helpdesk.

Anyway they have never been successful with helpdesk even with all the advantages they have- because IMO enterprise software and its customization/consulting side is foreign to msft's traditional packaged app business.

Msft won't make much headway with crm either- UNLESS they break new ground in the super-low end CRM space where customers have no automation now.
