It might be something other than the blackflies ... none of them out here in Lotusland, beyond the horror stories of the refugees arriving in bloody tatters from those parts, and yet i feel i begin to understand that outlook and humour Could be an experience of independence ... of having been out there on your own with nothing but your shilling penknife and piece of string, and no one around to take the shilling in exchange for anything useful to you ... lots of places here in BC still where your pickup/boat breaks down and bingo there you are a 24-hour walk/paddle/swim from the nearest aid .... just you and the bush/water and the weather, a perspective absolutely distinct from that felt in town EC is one of my favourite writers here too, i've read every post he ever typed i think .... people who don't know him think or pretend to think he has evil intent, but there is no malice in him imho ... not even, i am convinced, for the g.d. fr.
