I didn't make the Steam engine analogy, Darleen did.

When I mentioned the efficiencies brought in by the Net to shipping companies like FedEx and UPS its not to imply they are good investments. Case in point do you invest in a company that makes its money from shipping atoms when we seem to be moving towards shipping bits? But all companies are pushed to squeeze more out of that bottom line, shipping companies especially. How do they do it? Who benefits from that capital spending?

When I mention working every day over the Net with the different brokers, I'm simply pointing out just how entrenched the Net has become and will become in certain types of transactions. Financial services companies have the greatest efficiency to gain from having their operations on the Net primarily because one of their biggest expenses are the people required to interface with customers. I never talk with a human being for most of my transactions. You don't necessarily go out and invest in the companies adopting these efficiencies because they will all have to go there. You invest in the companies providing the tools they need to implement. The field is loaded with companies trying to do this, the problem is which ones will be most successful?

How about a company that enables a dozen or more employees from a far flung enterprise to meet on the web, talk to each other share files in realtime as opposed to getting on an airplane and all meeting in one room? Or allows for the average road warrior to use his laptop on the road and work in his desktop apps located on his work computer from his browser as if he were sitting there in his office? Or allows for people from remote locations to take a class or listen to a lecture in realtime from a simple browser?

How about a company that allows you to track the locations of your delivery trucks in realtime over the Web from a standard browser?

I do pay more than 100/month for web access considering I have two locations, one with DSL and one with Cable. Comcast is considerably better than ATT DSL. Doesn't mean its a good investment. I want to buy the company that makes the software and equipment that is going to allow them to provide QoS guarantees to users like me who demand and will use a higher level of service because Ah is right, they will have to go there in the future.
