Yes, I have used a pouch, but if you are going for a month or more and you want to travel light...those lead pouches get heavy, especially if you want to take a lot of film. I get all film hand searched, no matter the speed. The xray machines you encounter in the third world, you never know how much juice they are blasting at you with.

I really have had no problem when I have demanded a hand inspection, just a little huffing. In Saigon last year we went through 4 separate xray searches before getting to the plane.
