Really? What an extremely gifted and amazing child you were. Knowing all about those documents in elementary school! How proud your parents must have been. For most children who do not know about all those documents, and alas, do not even know about the countries founding at all, it is just a like a prayer. It is too bad there are not more gifted children, such as you were, to run around on the playground educating their fellows about the federalist papers and so on, but sadly we cannot count on such children to make the whole thing seem like fair play. It is too bad, I agree.

Quoting: "When I recited the pledge as a kid, I believed the words "under God" referred to the many references to God in the country's founding documents. The fact that the words were inserted in 1954 is evidence of a reaction to communism, but still doesn't change a historical interpretation. JMO. "

(you do realize the constitution- on which our whole system rests- doesn't mention God- and only mentions "lord" in the date, right? Did you discuss this with you playfellows in the second grade? And if you did, what did they think of this brief passing date centered reference?)
