But hey, I have to object.

If there are people smart enough to scoop up stock options AND have time to post whatever they like on SI all day then they probably deserve every dime of it and then some. Me for example <ggg>.

Besides, there was a time I'd have called myself a slacker for only working 6 day work week, 10 hours a day. Kids these days have it so easy! <ggg>

I don't think the issue is about giving out more or less options. Companies have work to do, they will have to pay what it takes to get it done or it won't get done. Slavery was outlawed a long time ago.

The issue is about accurately reflecting the cost of the enterprise so that its profitability is appropriately comparable to other enterprises.

Which begs the secondary question whether or not the allocation of options will be judicious. I know a lot of engineers who were barely capable of keeping up with consultants at 200K$ who were hauling down millions in options after two years work. It goes both ways.

Seems to me that we want a system where a $200K per year person pulls in 200 K$ per year. Pay 'em in any combination of stock options, cash, titles, twinkies or trinkets for all I care. Just don't pay 'em 1,200 K$ and record it as 120 K$ and expect me to fall for it.

I am quite agreeable to other people falling for it, however. Ours is a free country.
