marcos,
It might be something other than the blackflies ... Could be an experience of independence ...
Ah....I see you have presented an explanation that is more in line with social versus clinical psychology:-)) Is it a pharmacological agent transmitted by the black fly bites, or social or environmental conditioning? Many psychological arguments to me as a lay person appear on the surface to be circular in nature or tautologies, however, I suppose there may be some merit to the notion that it is always difficult to think outside the box when we are all born, raised, educated and live inside boxes of one kind or another eh:-)) Didn't Skinner and/or Pavlov advocate that all response is purely conditioned? I only agree to a certain extent within the physical realm. For example, I know if I put my hand in a fire, I will get burned, yet many scientific discoveries were made because someone suddenly "saw" or "experienced" something in a different way, "outside the box". Outside the physical realm, I don't agree. There are formal ways of thinking and expressing thoughts, whether they are mathematical or philosophical or legal etc., and many informal ways of thinking too, however, I believe conditioned responses are usually more emotive than considered, or dogmatic and without thought and consideration.
While we are on the topic of conditioning, I detect an increase in the number of media presentations on the suffering different peoples have experienced at the hands of Saddam, the Butcher of Bagdad over the last 20 years or so. Is this a precursor to military action, in order to influence public opinion er...make a conditioned response to an invasion:-))
