Achieving good scores of the top of the line system is worth millions of free publicity, meaning money that AMD does not need to spend, and still achieve the desired objective.

Why do you think Intel has not performed euthanasia of the 850 chipset? It's next to impossible to find them in the product lineup of the OEMs and the enthusiast community was never enthusiastic about RDRAM. So even if Intel only makes 100 of these chipsets for all the reviewers out there, it is still worth it.
