Dee Jay, personally I don't believe that at all, if that is indeed what he said. I think those are sockets either with a v.34 card that can be upgraded, or empty sockets waiting for 'Flex cards. In the very same call, he said they started shipping 56k cards in volume on Monday.

The fact of the matter is that Ascend has been making misleading statements regarding 56k deployment for six months, and they continue to do so. I for one continue to "doubt the veracity of Ascend officials".

<fact> We "doubters" have been one hell of a lot more accurate about the true status of their 56k deployment that they have been. </fact>
