Clinton Cries Poor
He may be raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees and wallowing in his multimillion-dollar book deal, but America's only full-time professional ex-president is short of cash.
As the New York Post's lively Page Six reports, Bill Clinton, who charges upwards of $250,000 per speech, is crying poverty.
It appears that he tried to pick up some art works "on the cheap, claiming he's short on cash," the Post reported.
As the Post explained, a Manhattan art collector got a call last week from an unnamed dealer who wanted to buy certain paintings for a "celebrity" client, an insider told the Post. Guessing that the dealer's client was Oprah Winfrey, who he represents, the collector quoted a price of $6,000 for a painting the dealer wanted.
"My client is a little short of cash and can't pay the full amount," the dealer said after relaying the information to his client. "Will you take $5,500?" When the collector said he was surprised that Winfrey didn't have the money, the dealer told him it wasn't Oprah but Bill Clinton. The collector "just laughed and turned him down," a friend of his told Page Six. "Skimping him on $500? What's that about?" the friend asked.
