Bill,

I don't think AMD will ever become a "box maker" per se for the following reasons:

1. No company likes to purchase a good or service from another company that they compete against.

2. As to making boxes, the margins absolutely stink. Dell is kicking butt and taking no names.

I believe that everything is riding on the Hammer. The situation that AMD is currently in is similiar to 1996-97 when the K5 was running out of gas and AMD needed a chip to head Intel off at the pass.

I believe that the Hammer will be a competitive chip. My only concern with AMD is: Can they fab the damn thing?

My note: I haven't owned AMD since 1995.
