"Which is not to doubt that most of them truly did feel that this was a highly inopportune time to be raising the pledge challenge." Yes, if the courts would have only waited till they were collecting pensions... "It probably was not a bad thing at that time to raise consciousness about where people's loyalties really lay." And today is an "inopportune" time for people to consider to whom or to what they feel an allegiance?! Or today is an "inopportune" time to consider whether or not the Constitution is the Supreme law, and to reaffirm that it still DOES reign Supreme--as declared by the Supreme Court over 100 years ago??
