American Air Cuts Senior Discount

07/13/2002 13:25:59 EST
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - American Airlines, saying it was following the lead of three other carriers, has stopped offering a 10 percent senior citizen discount on its flights.

The discount, which had been available for people age 62 and older, was discontinued Friday night, American spokesman Dale Morris said Saturday.

Morris said he expected the change to be permanent.

"In this highly discounted fare environment, we matched Delta, Northwest and U.S. Airways," Morris said. "We were evaluating it and late last night we made a decision."

He said that anyone who had already booked a flight before Friday night would still get the discount.
