Would you risk the Ozone? Or risk the people?

Folks: I believe the real crux of technological advancement is that you can change the ground rules. You really can have your cake and eat it too.
I work for a big chemical firm whose moneymaker is prescription drugs. In the last thirty years, output of medicines (amount and complexity) has boomed exuberantly. During this time pollution from the manufacturer has gone way down in volume and in type of toxic emission. This is happening because of the environmental sea change sweeping out society. Forty years ago, only cranks gave a rat's Arsch about the environment. Now those who don't are the margin.
Farms: we will learn to retain or improve yield per acre. Our tools will become modern enough that the soil will be restored. The vast tableaux of monoculture will become an icon of the TwenCen. Picture a diverse, biomanaged farm spread worked by many small, smart robots. Within my lifetime, maybe. From the air it wouldn't be a quilt but lacework: small patches of optimized crop like a foam in a lacework of naturalized wilderness corridor. Absolute heaven for pink-cheeked kids in overalls playing hide&seek.
This Feelie moment was brought to you by the makers of Zzzt! brand caffeine products
