Hi RtS, I see what you mean. I initially didn't read it as if it gets to 40- 42 it must go to 55, but rather that often 40 -42 will falsly lure many traders into taking long positions because it "was a very popular strategy leading up to the market crash." That's the gist of it I got from reading the whole article whose url I posted... however, thanks for pointing out the inconsistency. I'd been looking at the VIX and planning to trade long because it had hit the 40 area.. then I saw that hitting 40 can also be a trigger for a much deeper drop in the market. It should be interesting, the popular press is saying earnings (generally expected to be positive this week) will calm fears.
