I'm not so sure about the AMD-backed "reference design" idea. It's totally unnecessary for desktop machines since the build-it-yourself systems can be ordered with GeForce4 graphics and a Gig of DDR if you wish. AMD would be severely tempted to sell the notebook reference designs at lower and lower prices and that would piss off the OEMs a lot. There are notebooks with DDR and 15" screens now, but I haven't seen good graphics yet. Let's see how AMD motherboards go before doing the entire PC or entire notebook.
