Charles,

I'm watching closely. Back in early 2000, I posted the following on a Yahoo thread:

I just had a disturbing thought.

Why will Bush have a tough time beating Gore?

Because the economy is so good - no one will want to change the party in residence for fear of screwing it up. Right?

Do you suppose those wiley Texans behind Bush are working with their arabian oil buddies to manufacture a short term dive of the economy by raising and holding oil prices high for a while?

Now there's a conspiratorial thought for you!

Or is the OPEC production holdoff just a coincidence?

Now that we are on the other side of that oil run-up and the California power crisis, I'm even more concerned that I may have been right.

The problem is all that oil/energy folderol hurt the economy; 9/11 exacerbated it; and now corruption seems to be burying it.

Did Clinton do all that?

Disclaimer: I am an independent.
