We arrived at the theater too early and were waiting for a movie to start, so we wandered into a nearby bookstore. The children were looking at books and one picked up something called "Yankee Doodle," saying he'd read that. That reminded me of Bill's post so I asked them: Do you know what the 4th of July is about? What does independence day mean? Who fought the war? Why? Who won? After reading your comments, I was surprised how much they knew: names mentioned included George Washington, King George, Benedict Arnold & Nathan Hale (and what they were famous for).
