Harry,
The Pingtel phone uses Wind's VxWorks as it's embedded OS. The article implies that a poorly thought out application design by Pingtel's programmers, which opens the door for "attackers" to easily gain access to just about any phone, is the cause for concern. If the instructions which come with the phone specifically state that the purchaser should change the security password once it's turned on, then this article is over kill and it's focus should be to remind users to do this, as opposed to busting the company's chops about it's security setup. Many software applications start with a simple generic password like ADMIN or ADMINISTRATOR upon start up. It's up to the people running the software to be smart enough to change the password after installation.
